Spending a Cosy Weekend in Kirkby Lonsdale

You know what I love? The first signs that autumn is on its way. The slight nip in the air, the smell of cooler mornings, the way the light changes and twinkles amongst the orange leaves.

I’ve been reading a book, recently, called The Art of Hygge which describes a mood of cosiness and “comfortable conviviality” which brings feelings of wellness and contentment. This Danish way of living can be perfectly likened to autumn here in the north west of England, I feel.

In this week’s blog I thought I would give you a few cosy autumn ideas, simple things that don’t cost the earth but that can provide you with memories for years to come.

Spending a romantic weekend in Kirkby Lonsdale is a real joy with a plethora of gorgeous independent stores to explore and enjoy. The little high street we have here is cosy at the best of times, but as September and October loom, it really takes on this air of comfort, that means you can spend the days exploring and the nights tucked up in the warmth of your suite.

Potter down to the river

Late afternoon in early autumn is the perfect time for a stroll down the River Lune, taking in the breath-taking vista over Ruskin’s View and experiencing the autumn sun going down behind the trees. This walk is just a mere few minutes from Absoluxe Suites and is also a lovely place to be first thing in the morning as first light dawns, leaves crunch under foot and you can see your breath steaming against the cold air.

Snuggle down with a perfect comfort film

When the nights start to draw-in there’s nothing better than snuggling down and watching a real comfort film. The suites at Absoluxe are all kitted out with decadently comfortable beds with sumptuously soft Egyptian Cotton bed linen, additional cosy warm blankets and large screen smart TVs with Netflix included.

It’s a bit of guilty pleasure of mine to enjoy a favourite film whilst tucked-up in bed, and I have a few ‘go to’ movies that I always seem to choose – Practical Magic, When Harry Met Sally, Mama Mia and, of course, all the Harry Potter ones!

Enjoy a home cooked lunch

There are so many gorgeous places to eat in Kirkby Lonsdale, and in the Yorkshire Dales in general, and when autumn starts to appear I love to wrap up and enjoy a hearty bowl of soup with fresh bread. Just a short walk away from Absoluxe is The Sun Inn, a really cosy traditional pub where you can enjoy a delicious lunch and or evening meal in each other’s company.

Indulge in a luxurious bubble bath

Warm those cold toes and fingers with an indulgent bubble bath, the perfect autumn weekend activity. All the Suites provide products from The Bath House which smell like heaven, add a little mood lighting (don’t worry we’ve got that covered) and your favourite relaxing soundtrack in the background. There’s nothing better than being surrounded by warm bubbles should the weather outside be wet and wild!

Explore the story of Devils Bridge

You may already have heard that Kirkby Lonsdale has a quirky back-story associated with its most famous bridge, and it’s worth a trip to see its magnificent three arches over the River Lune. There’s lots of historical information around the bridge so you can discover the story for yourself and search for the Devil’s handprint in the stone.

Experience autumnal sights at Barbon Beck

Wrap up warm and don your comfiest walking footwear while taking in the vista of undulating Yorkshire Dales hills in the quiet village of Barbon. The Barbon Inn makes a nice pit stop for a drink as you complete this wonderful circular walk, the autumnal changing landscape a spectacular backdrop.

As always, if you need more ideas on how to spend a romantic weekend in Kirkby Lonsdale I am here to help. I have many suggestions on places to eat and things to do, and if you just fancy staying in your suite we have lots of little extras that can help to make your autumn break even more carefree and comfortable.
