Luxury and Eco, what could be better?

Luxury. A word I use a lot because it really describes Absoluxe Suites so well. We provide guests with a luxury experience, something out of the ordinary, a real break away from the daily grind of everyday life.

From the very start of Absoluxe, even before we opened, we knew we wanted to combine a luxury experience with environmental practices. We knew these things could go hand in hand and that reducing carbon footprint didn’t mean a reduction in luxury!

These days it’s even more important than ever to make sure we are reducing our carbon footprint, that we are recycling and also that we are supporting local businesses. Many people travel a few hours to stay in the Absoluxe Suites, and that is wonderful, but to counterbalance this we want to make sure that our products and suppliers are from as close by as possible.

So, what do we do to make sure that we provide you with a luxury but eco experience?

Keeping your beverage Carbon Footprint down

It would be so easy to order our tea and coffee supplies online, but why would we when just down the road in Kendal there is both Farrers Coffee and Pennington’s Tea. Using these two suppliers means that we can support businesses right on our doorstep AND reduce our carbon footprint. It also means that our coffee capsules are 100% plastic free and 100% recyclable, and all the tea packaging we use is also plastic free.

Guilt free bathing.

One of the first products we knew we just had to share with guests was the wonderful Bath House. We knew their products would be perfect for Absoluxe Suites, and at just 200 yards away from the suites it’s an absolute joy to just potter down and pick up the products when we need them. We also use full size products in all the rooms as this reduces waste, and The Bath House work hard to create packaging which does not rely on plastic and uses minimal natural resources.

Laundry on the doorstep.

Not literally left on the doorstep! We use local business Tiggywinkles Laundry for all the bedding and towels at Absoluxe Suites. Based in Kirkby Lonsdale it means we are able to reduce our carbon footprint by not using transportation to take our laundry. They provide a wonderful 5 star and ethical service that we are very happy to support.

Speaking of bedding…

All our beautiful bedding is provided by local Kirkby Stephen based business, Out of Eden. Again this is another way we make sure we reduce our carbon footprint whilst supporting local businesses. Family owned, Out of Eden are committed to reducing waste and recycling materials and we love that about them. They also supply us with such soft sheets we sometimes want to curl up and fall asleep in the beds ourselves!

Environmentally friendly all the way.

We are sticklers for recycling and all guest waste is thoroughly sorted and recycled. We also have an advanced heating system control that enables us to control the heating remotely so no heating is left on unnecessarily.

It also means that I can quickly put it on for guests if the evening is chiller than expected! All the lighting at Absoluxe is low energy LED and supplied by the Majik House, it is touch panel controlled for our guest’s ease and also allows us to keep our energy under control.

No plastic bottles here.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to reducing plastic waste which is why we use flasks for milk, and glass bottles for chilled water in the guests fridge. We have been to many a hotel room where there is an abundance of plastic containers in the hotel fridge and it’s just so unnecessary. We all coped perfectly fine without plastic in the past!

We even use Eco toilet roll!

We use eco brand ‘Who Gives a Crap’ toilet roll in all our suites, which is made from 100% bamboo and often raises a laugh amongst our guests! This brand also helps us to keep plastic use to a minimum as they have 100% plastic free packaging, and they also use 50% of their profits to build toilets and provide safe sanitation to those that need it.

And finally, chocolate.

Because every blog should end with chocolate (mostly as a reward to myself for writing one!). All our gift packages that contain specialist chocolates are bought from Chocolat in Kirkby Lonsdale, we simply walk along to the shop, sample a few (of course!) and select the very best for our guests.

There is no reason why luxury and eco can’t go hand in hand these days, you don’t need to skimp on comfort to be environmentally friendly. What’s great about Absoluxe is that we are situated right in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale, you can simply arrive, park up, and then not touch your car for an entire weekend.

Everything you could possibly need is right here on the doorstep; great food, relaxing walks, unique shops to explore, and then the luxury of Absoluxe Suites as your backdrop.
