Days Out in Yorkshire

Thanks to its position sitting on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Kirkby Lonsdale is the perfect base for days out in Yorkshire. With its spectacular rolling landscape, beautiful natural formations, and delightful attractions, you’ll be able to fill your days with exciting activities. Or perhaps just sit back and enjoy the view. We think both are worth doing in this stunning region.

Many of the best places to visit in Yorkshire are within a short drive of our suites in Kirkby Lonsdale, so you can spend a full day exploring the county, or pop back and forth as you see fit. Take a stroll along the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail for a collection of thundering forces tumbling over cliffs, through ravines, and down narrow gullies.

Or for something man-made that’s no less spectacular, stop by Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle to Carlisle Railway – you could even take a train yourself and experience one of the most scenic routes in the country. Steam trains make the journey at selected times if you want to enjoy something a little different.

You can hardly visit Yorkshire, of course, without some walking. Lace up your boots, get out the map, and spend many a happy hour rambling in the countryside. There’s a reason Yorkshire is often called God’s Own Country – it’s hard to see how a place could be so spectacular without divine intervention! There’s everything available from potters around pretty villages to intimidating Ingleborough, the tallest mountain in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.

When it rains, you can head into the shelter of the incredible caverns that form part of a miles-long network of caves under the Dales. Ingleborough and White Scar are the two most famous caves locally and you’ll able to see why on your visit. If you don’t fancy going deep underground, then why not visit a few castles? Skipton and Pendragon are both nearby and well-worth a trip.
